On February 25, 2006 Laura Gorman was a passenger in a car traveling south on Interstate 275. Laura was returning to Eckerd College where she was enrolled as a freshman. Just moments away from the Pinellas Bayway Exit the car crashed. There were no other vehicles involved. The car hit two small trees, rolled and while overturned the roof of the car struck a large tree and then fell back onto the wheels. Laura died at the scene. She was just 18 years old.
Laura had everything to live for. She was a bright, beautiful and caring individual. She had achieved much success in her short life. As a high school student she had earned a string of awards and accomplishments including a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. She loved cheerleading and was a teen volunteer for Hospice. Her life, which held such enormous potential, was erased in a moment by a drunk driver. Her death is not only a monumental loss for her family, but for the community as well.
